Character

Defining Aspects of Christ@Work:

1. A commitment to the authority of God's Word in the business.

  • ...because you know that you also have a Master in heaven. (Col 4:1)
  • Look here, you people who say, 'Today or tomorrow we are going to such and such a town, stay there a year, and open up a profitable business.' How do you know that is going to happen tomorrow? For the length of your lives is as uncertain as the morning fog--now you see it; soon it's gone. What you ought to say is, 'If the Lord wants us to, we shall live and do this or that.' Otherwise you will be bragging about your own plans, and such self- confidence never pleases God. Remember too, that knowing what is right to do and then not doing it is sin. (Ja 4:13-17 TLB)
  • ...and He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given...and placed all things under His feet and appointed Him to be head over everything for the church... (Eph 1:19-23)

2. A commitment to the importance and practice of prayer in decisions.

  • If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. (Ja 1:5)
  • Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present you requests to God. (Phil 4:6)

3. A commitment to excellence in all aspects of business activities.

  • Then God looked over all that He had made, and it was excellent in every way. (Gen 1:31)
  • But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way. (1 Cor 14:40)
  • But just as you excel in everything... (2 Cor 8:7)

4. A clear and concise statement on the purpose of the business.

  • Where there is no vision the people perish... (Pv 29:18) The plans of the diligent lead to profit... (Pv 21:5)
  • And the Lord answered me and said, Write down the revelation and make it plain on the tablets so that everyone who passes may be able to read it easily and quickly as he passes by. (Hab 2:2)

5. The company leader or executive has a giving heart.

  • At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. (2 Cor 8:14)
  • Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver...You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. (2 Cor 9:7-11)

6. The company leader wants to see evangelism occur through the business.

  • When Jesus landed and saw the large crowd, He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So He began teaching them many things. (Mark 6:34)
  • But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

7. The company leader is committed to accountable relationships.

  • So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. (Ro 14:21)
  • As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. (Pv 27:17)
  • Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! ...A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. (Eccl 4:9-12)

8. The company leader has a strong commitment to personal spiritual growth.

  • For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Pet 1:5-8)
  • Let the wise add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance-- (Pv 1:5)
