The Power of the Christ@Work Prayer Chain

My name is Mark Stever. I have been a member of FCCI for only about 7 years or so and have always found it to be beneficial for me both in my business and personal life. I really did not know just how important FCCI would be to me until September 8, 2001. On that Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m., a motorist failed to stop at a stop sign hitting the driver’s side door of my car leaving me as a T5-T6 paraplegic.

I remained conscious for 48 hours. However, due to certain circumstances the doctors decided to place me in an induced coma for 3.5 weeks. In the coma I vividly remember the horrific dreams because I thought that I was dead and could not figure out where I was. During this time, word started to spread about my condition and prayer chains were being established. One certain FCCI friend (who was stranded in Nevada due to 9-11 airline shut down) was ministered to by the Holy Spirit and instructed to give my wife a message. My wife was told that whenever she saw me she should open with the scripture Psalms 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God”. When using that, she was the only person that I could hear - this quickly calmed me down and helped me to relax.

On November 7th I was moved from Wichita, KS to Jefferson Barrack VA hospital in St. Louis, MO. I had to remain in bed for 3 weeks being assisted to even turn myself in bed. Later, I started physical therapy. By this time I had been placed on FCCI’s national prayer chain. I started receiving daily letters from people simply dropping a line stating that they had prayed for me that day. I so dearly needed the prayers and the letters of encouragement. One letter from a gentleman in Florida told me of all the physical, mental, and financial tests that he had been through and after each paragraph he closed with “but God is Good”. After reading that letter I could not help but think to myself “Man! all I lost was 2 legs”. His letter and my daughter’s drawings were the only items to be hung on the wall.

Allow me to give you an update as to how my recovery is going. My doctors informed me that I would never walk again, thankfully, God has His own agenda. Currently I am standing on James 2:17 that “Faith by itself, without works, is dead” so I do my therapy everyday by walking ½ mile using only a walker. It takes me all day and tires me right back into my wheelchair but with Prayer, Faith, and Perseverance I will receive a complete healing. Although I am not totally healed YET, I do believe in prayer and prayer chains and I humbly and selfishly ask all of you not to stop praying for me. This has been a powerful ministry and testimony for me to share and I assure you that I share with anyone who will listen.

Sadly, it is impossible for me to express my true gratitude in this letter for all the donations, thoughts, prayers, visitations and support that was given to me from everyone in FCCI but I do sincerely Thank You all. God is Good!

Sincerely,

Mark A. Stever
